The Essence Self-Study School is a personal development institute working to free human beings from their inner obstacles in order to actively participate in society in balance and in the perpetual quest for the common good.
History
The quest for self-knowledge is as old as humanity itself. Ancient civilizations, such as the Greeks and the Egyptians, recognized the importance of self-knowledge and its role in personal growth and development. The famous Delphic maxim, 'Know thyself,' was inscribed on the temple of Apollo in ancient Greece, and the Egyptian Book of the Dead emphasized the importance of introspection and self-reflection as a means to attain a peaceful and meaningful afterlife.
The eastern spiritual traditions such as Buddhism and Taoism have long recognized the importance of self-understanding as a means to achieve inner peace and enlightenment. In these traditions, meditation, mindfulness, and other contemplative practices are used to cultivate self-awareness and gain an understanding of the nature of self and reality.
This quest is at the heart of any true religion (from the Latin Religare - To connect).
